Yoga is an ancient exercise form which helps in combating a host of ailments, including mental problems such as stress and keeps you fit. Yoga got international recognition when 21st June was declared as Yoga Day to promote the benefits of Yoga to a global audience. The benefits of Yoga can be derived only when it is performed correctly. There are some common mistakes that people commit during Yoga which have an adverse effect on the body.
Here are some of the mistakes which one must be aware of before starting Yoga.
#Injury
If you are suffering from any injury on your body, it should not be ignored, and you must inform about the same. Similarly, the yoga instructor must be informed immediately if you are unable to perform any mudra due to pain or extreme discomfort.
#Wrong clothes
It is important to wear the right kind of clothes for performing Yoga. People often make the mistake of wearing tight clothes or clothes which are not able to absorb sweat well. Such clothes lead to an uncomfortable feeling throughout the yoga session, thereby creating a distraction.
#Full stomach
Yoga should not be performed on a full stomach. People often eat food before doing Yoga. This is a big mistake because the body expends a lot of energy to digest food and performing yoga at this point of time causes a lot of fatigue. Furthermore, you can also suffer from nausea, vomiting and cramps. Thus, it is advisable to avoid eating anything at least 2-3 hours before doing Yoga.
#Conversation
Striking up a conversation with other people during yoga classes is a mistake. Conversation creates a distraction when the attention should solely be on the yoga asanas and mudras. It also disturbs others. Thus, maintaining silence during yoga classes is important.
#Using gadgets
Mobile phones or any other gadget creates distraction during the yoga session. The focus should only be on Yoga. Hence, leave your mobile phone or tablet or any other gadget at home when you go for your yoga class.
