Lay Tiles On The Bathroom Floor: Tiles are not enough to buy, they still need to be laid correctly on the floor so that the floor looks beautiful in accordance with the general design of the bathroom and serves for a long time without requiring repairs.
Prepare the floor for laying tiles
Prepare the floor surface before laying the tiles. To do this, remove the debris formed during the repair and sweep the room. Any residue left on the floor will interfere with the adhesion of the tiles and can cause a poor installation. If the floor is uneven, it must be leveled with a cement screed. We will talk about preparing a solution for a cement and sand screed and pouring it along the headlights at another time, as that is already beyond the scope of this article.
Tile Adhesive Preparation
In order for the tiles to adhere securely to the floor, you will need a special solution, also called a tile adhesive. Tile adhesive can be purchased ready-to-use or powdered, which you will need to dilute to the desired consistency. The tile adhesive is made on a cement basis and looks very similar. The photo below shows the tile adhesive mixture with an electric drill and a special nozzle:
How to apply tile adhesive when laying tiles on the floor
To install the tiles, you will need a scalloped trowel to create a wavy surface for the mortar. It is not necessary to apply the solution immediately over a large area. Apply enough to bond 2-3 tiles.
Ceramic tile laying
Run the notched edge of the trowel over the surface of the mortar applied to the floor and lay the tiles. Then press it firmly against the floor so that the tile adhesive evenly fills the space under the tiles. If necessary, the tiles can be tapped with a hammer through a fabric-wrapped block. Keep the same distance between the tiles using plastic crosses.
Laying tiles on the bathroom floor
Also check the plane of the resulting coating. Using a level applied to the floor, check for a pothole or depression anywhere. If one of the tiles is taller than the others, try to “drown” it harder in the solution before you grab it. If any tile has sunk below the rest, remove it, add mortar, and press it back to the floor.
Use a tile cutter to trim the tiles.
Grouting joints between tiles. Once all the tiles have been laid, the remaining free space at the joints must be filled with mortar using a rubber trowel. Fill the gaps thoroughly, removing excess mortar with a trowel. After the mortar has dried, the tiles should be wiped with a dry cloth to remove any cloudy stains from the tile adhesive that has fallen on them.
Now you know how to lay tiles on the bathroom floor. As you can see, this is not such a difficult matter and you can easily place the tiles yourself by following the operations described above.
