7 Features to Include in a Modern Bathroom Remodel

Published

on

Modern Bathroom Remodel

Bathroom remodels were very popular last year, but if you didn’t get the opportunity to do one last year, why not do it now, instead? A beautiful modern bathroom remodel can add value to your home and make the smallest room in the house far more luxurious and pleasant to inhabit.

Yet what should you consider when carrying out a bathroom remodeling? What features should you be adding and tweaking?

In this guide, we’re going to give you some fantastic inspiration in the form of modern bathroom remodel ideas. Include any of the features that we’re going to list and you’ll have a nicer, more modern bathroom.

Are you ready to get started? Then read on!

1. Add a Hidden-Tank Toilet

Traditional toilets featured a fairly large cistern on top, which some consider slightly unsightly. If you want to go for a more modern look, consider adding a toilet with a hidden tank.

These toilets attach directly onto the wall, with a cistern hidden away inside the wall. While this does make DIY toilet repair a little trickier, there are some fantastic benefits.

A toilet with a hidden tank looks a lot sleeker than its traditional cousins, blending in well in any modern bathroom. They also give you a little extra space. The toilet is a lot smaller without a large water tank, which means that you’ll have more space in the room.

2. Freestanding Tubs

A claw-footed bathtub looks very out of place in a modern bathroom, but if you’re going to do a bathroom renovation, why not consider a freestanding tub? The traditional tubs that attach to the wall of your bathroom look quite dated, whereas a freestanding tub with a flat bottom looks sleek, interesting, and modern. If you’d like to add a little old-world charm to your new bath, you can always add some brass faucets like the ones in this collection.

While these types of bathtubs often don’t feature a shower, it’s possible to get freestanding tubs that do. These bathtubs are a little more spacious, too, as there’s no wall for one arm to awkwardly rest against.

It’s a type of bath that you can really luxuriate in. Why not treat yourself to one?

3. A New Lick of Paint

Cool colors like blue and aquamarine have been the traditional hue for bathrooms, but they can also make the room seem darker and dourer. If you’re remodeling your bathroom, add some warm colors like burnt orange, red, or even yellow?

However, it’s not only the paint’s color that you should be considering. Paint has come a long way in recent years, and you can now get paints that are resistant to mildew and mold. These durable paints can make your bathroom a much healthier place to be: mold isn’t only unpleasant to look at, it can also cause numerous health issues.

4. Add a Window to Your Bathroom

Many people have windowless bathrooms but if you’re remodeling your bathroom, this should be one of the first things that you change. One of the cornerstones of modern design is a love of natural light, which comes with numerous benefits.

Firstly, natural light can reduce your electricity bill. If you typically shower or bathe when it’s light outside, a window can mean that you won’t need to turn your lights on, keeping your bills down. Natural light can also make you feel happier and will make the room a much airier place to be.

Finally, adding a window also allows for increased air ventilation. After you’ve had a shower, crack the window open and allow air to circulate. This should help keep mold and mildew under control.

5. Add Heated Flooring

Heated flooring is something that we’ve all marveled at, at one point or another. Who’s not spent time in a hotel bathroom with heated flooring and never wanted to leave? Well, if you’re remodeling your bathroom, why not add underfloor heating?

Heated floors are surprisingly cost-effective and also heat the room very efficiently. Not only that, they’re a godsend during cold weather. Forget stepping out of the shower into a freezing bathroom and onto cold tiles: you’ll get out of the shower and step into a comfortably warm room thanks to your heated tiles.

6. Wood-Look Tiles

Wooden floors look amazing but come with some issues. Wood is naturally quite porous, which can lead to serious issues in the bathroom. Sure, you can treat the wood, but this adds a whole other level of complexity that you don’t want to have to deal with.

Why not go for wood-look tiles instead? This is the best of both worlds, as you get the hardwearing nature of tiles with the beautiful and natural look of wood. Many people won’t be able to tell the difference between wood-look tiles and actual wood, either.

7. Add a Large Floating Mirror

Mirrors are very important in bathrooms. It’s where we prepare to take on the world and look our best. Yet a wood-framed mirror can look very clunky in an otherwise modern bathroom.

If you want to add some serious flair, you need to have a floating, frameless mirror.

Mirrors also come with the added bonus of making the bathroom appear lighter and airier than it really is. Invest in a great mirror: you will not regret it.

Must-Have Features for Your Modern Bathroom Remodel

A Homeowner’s Guide to the Different Types of Propane Tanks

Types of Propane Tanks

Different types of propane tanks serve different purposes around the home.

From keeping your home warm to powering your backyard BBQ, keep reading to learn about the various types of propane tanks you might need.

20 Pound Propane Tanks

These are perhaps the most common types of propane tanks found around residential properties. While you won’t use these to heat your home or power your interior stove, 20-pound propane tanks are commonly used for a variety of outdoor appliances and tools.

For instance, your backyard BBQ likely uses a 20-pound propane tank. Mosquito catchers and patio heaters also commonly use this size of tank.

When you need to refill your propane tank, you won’t do so at your home. Instead, these small tanks are often exchanged for full ones at retailers. Many grocery stores and hardware stores, and even some gas stations, exchange these tanks for a fee.

100 Pound Propane Tanks

Another common type of home propane tanks are 100-pound tanks. This propane tank size is also largely used to power smaller household appliances. This includes home gas fireplaces, dryers, and large outdoor grills.

Unlike 20-pound propane tanks, which are often attached directly to the appliance, 100-pound tanks are often connected via a long gas line to the appliance.

Like smaller tanks, these types of tanks are usually taken to a retailer for an exchange when they are empty.

One drawback to 100 pound propane tanks is that they don’t have a remaining amount gauge. This means that you can’t tell for certain how much propane you have left in your tank.

To avoid running out of gas in the middle of cooking a meal or on a cold night, most homeowners set up a dual tank system, connected via a change-over regulator. This regulator automatically switches the line to the other tank when one runs empty.

420 Pound Propane Tanks

Also known as 100-gallon tanks, these larger tanks are usually around 4 feet tall by 3 feet wide. As the name suggests, they hold around 100 gallons of gas at 80 precent capacity.

Similar to 100-pound propane tanks, 420-pound tanks are used for home heating, hot water heaters, indoor fireplaces, dryers, and even pool heaters.

Because of their larger size, 420-pound propane tanks do have some restrictions on where they can be placed. They must be placed at least 5 feet away from a door or window leading into a building. You can only place up to 4 420 pound tanks next to one another. If you need more propane than that, you’ll need to opt for a larger tank.

500 Gallon Propane Tanks

For homes that run on propane for heat, power, and other uses, a larger tank is a must. Different types of propane tanks are designed for smaller applications. But for this amount of use, a 500-gallon propane tank is a better choice.

Often standing around 3 feet tall and 10 feet wide, these tanks come in either above-ground or underground versions. This size tank is designed to power a home that’s between 2,500 and 4,500 square feet. Choosing the right propane tank size for your home will ensure that you have enough propane to stay warm, cool, and connected.

These tanks must be placed at least 10 feet away from a building.

1000 Gallon Propane Tanks

For homes larger than 4,500 square feet, 1000 gallon propane tanks are a must. These tanks can power heating, power, and other applications in larger homes.

Like 500 gallon tanks, these can be placed above or below ground and must be a minimum of 10 feet away from a home.

3 Common Swimming Pool Cleaning Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Swimming Pool Cleaning

Are you wondering how to care for a pool properly? If you are a new pool owner, there are some things you will want to learn in order to properly care for your pool, including some of the top swimming pool cleaning mistakes to avoid.

If you want to keep your pool clean, clear, safe, and swimmable, keep reading. Regular pool maintenance is a must in order to keep your pool in good condition.

1. Not Shocking Your Pool at the Right Time

One of the most common mistakes pool owners make is not shocking the pool properly. Shocking your pool is a must for keeping out chloramines which can be irritating to both the skin and eyes. Also, shocking your pool allows there to be well-balanced chlorine levels.

A common mistake that many make is adding shock to their pool during the daytime. This is not the most effective time to shock a pool, as it makes the shock less effective. This is because the sun can burn off chlorine that is unstabilized, causing the shock to be less effective or not effective at all in some cases.

To make the most out of the shocking product while keeping your pool clean and balanced, you should make sure to add only the required amount of chlorine while also adding the product at night. You should shock your pool at night about once a week for ht best results.

2. Shocking Your Pool Incorrectly

Also, you do not want to add the shock directly to your pool

Instead, you should dissolve the chemical in a bucket full of water beforehand to dilute it a bit. This allows the shock to be even more evenly dispersed in the pool water once you add it. Shock is basically concentrated chlorine, and high levels of chlorine can damage and bleach areas of your pool walls or flooring.

If you see cracks on the sides or bottom of your pool, it may be a result of adding too highly concentrated chlorine levels likely from shocking your pool incorrectly. Make sure to also add water to the bucket before the chemicals, as doing so the other way around could result in a harmful backsplash.

3. Not Taking Advantage of Automated Pool Cleaning Equipment

While you will still want to regularly brush and skim your pool, using automated pool cleaning equipment such as pool vacuums and a water filtration system can help to keep your pool clean. Many don’t realize that running these tools for at least eight hours a day could save them tons of time cleaning their pool while also making sure their pool is clean and healthy for swimming. If you need more assistance, consider hiring this pool maintenance company

5 Tips for Buying Living Room Furniture

Living Room Furniture

Did you know that the average American spends approximately two hours a day sitting on their couch? Even though that may not seem like much, it adds up to over 700 hours each year!

Clearly, most of us get a lot of use out of our living rooms. So, after a while, you may decide that it’s time to change up your living room decor or layout.

In this post, we’ll give you some living room furniture tips so that you can create a functional and pleasant space. So, keep reading to learn all about living room design!

1. Plan Your Layout

Before you can purchase your living room furniture, you’ll need to think about the layout. Ask yourself:

  • What pieces do I want to include?
  • Will I place the sofa against the wall or in the middle of the room?
  • What kind of lighting will you use?

Once you have the answers in mind, you can create a layout on paper. To make it more harmonious and comfortable, why not use feng shui techniques?

2. Use a Color Scheme

Another crucial part of purchasing living room furniture is choosing the colors and patterns.

If your room is already painted and decorated, then neutral furniture is likely your best bet. On the other hand, if you start from scratch, you can base your color scheme around the furniture you like best.

3. Choose Your Sofa Carefully

Aside from color, there are numerous factors to think about when picking out a sofa. And, since this is the piece of furniture you’ll use the most, it’s important to find a style and material that meet your needs.

For example, if you have small children or pets, you may want to choose a sofa made from durable materials that don’t stain easily. And, if you like to lounge around watching movies, you should consider a sofa with a chaise or a sectional.

And while it may be tempting to purchase your sofa online for a low price, shopping at furniture stores allows you to inspect the sturdiness and quality. As a result, you can make sure you get a comfy and durable piece of furniture.

4. Stay Practical

There’s no reason that your living room shouldn’t look beautiful, but you don’t have to sacrifice practicality.

Since you’ll likely be using your living room for a variety of activities, create multifunctional spaces. For example, a dining room table with drawer space can double as a desk or study area.

Thus, before purchasing furniture, make sure it fits in with your lifestyle.

5. Accent Your Furniture

Another thing to consider when purchasing furniture is how you will style it. For example, if you choose neutral or solid colors, you can contrast them with patterned throw pillows on the sofa or a colorful rug.

Enjoy Your New Living Room Furniture

Choosing living room furniture is a huge task. Yet, by creating a vision for your space and looking for good quality pieces, you can design the living room you always wanted!
