Islam is a religion whose teachings don’t hurt anyone in any way. It teaches us to give respect and proper rights to every person in our society. The point is that whether a woman can do Umrah without a mahram along with her or not? Family Umrah packages are a great option to travel for this soulful journey.
This point has two aspects. One is our Islamic teachings, and the second is Saudi rules and regulations. Before processing onward, let’s clear the term Mahram, which persons are a mahram for any female.
Mahram
Any male relative of a lady with whom she isn’t permitted to marry at any time and any circumstance because of blood ties, breastfeeding, or ties through marriage. List of mahram of a woman according to Islam.
- Husband
- Father
- Brother
- Son
- Grand Dad
- Grand Son
- Uncle
- Nephew
- Father-in-law
- Son-in-law
- Step Father
- Stepson
- Rada (milk sucking brother)
These are the relatives with whom our Islam allows a woman to travel more than 24 hours. A woman can only take off his hijab in front of her mahrams, not in front of others. A woman can carry anyone of them with her as mahram in Hajj or Umrah. According to Islamic teachings, a woman can’t do Umrah without a mahram.
Saudi Rules And Regulations
Saudi Arabia offers two types of visa for Umrah performance. One is a visit visa, and one is an Umrah visa. Each of them has different rules in its nature regarding mahram. One of them allows a lady to perform Umrah without a mahram under certain conditions.
On Umrah visa
Any lady who is above 18 and below 45 can’t travel for Umrah without a mahram on an Umrah visa. Although women equal to 45 or above can move within an organized group of ladies to perform Umrah without a mahram.
Only she has to submit a no-objection letter from one of his family members regarding that they allow her to travel for Umrah. Women below 18 should have to go with their guardians for Umrah performance if they are planning to go on Umrah Visa.
On visit visa
Any lady can perform Umrah on a visit visa without having a mahram. Women under 25 can’t travel alone to Saudi Arabia. However, a woman above 25 can travel alone to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia announced a list of 50 countries that can get a Saudi visit visa online. Another interesting thing is that the Saudi visit visa will cost you less than an Umrah visa.
Islamic Point Of View
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (R.A) prophet (P.B.U.H) said, “It isn’t passable for a lady who has faith in Allah and the Last Day to travel a separation of one day and one night without a mahram with her.” From the above quote, it is apparent that a woman can’t travel without a mahram. But in the modern era, many people give argue that it is a matter of safety. If a woman is safe throughout her journey, she can travel. We should not take this matter lightly and do what our Islam teaches to us. A woman should take her mahram along with her whether she is going to book Hajj packages or Umrah.
Allah knows the best.
