4 Unique Daytime Date Ideas They Won’t Soon Forget

Published

Daytime Date Ideas

For most couples, there comes a time when they’re so comfortable with one another, things can get kind of boring. This can take anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, but when it happens to you, you’ll definitely feel the slump.

Of course, you still love your partner, so you don’t want to break up. But what you can break up is monotony!

By reigniting the spark in your relationship, you can fall in love all over again and get some excitement back in your lives. So keep reading for 4 daytime date ideas to impress your significant other.

1. Visit the Local Market

Walking around the local market is one of the best day dates around, especially if there’s good weather. Taking a slow stroll and a breather from your busy lives can help you reconnect.

Hold hands as you browse the stalls, checking out the fresh produce and beautiful handmade items. Not only will you get to support local businesses, but you’ll also have a great time chatting about the things you see.

Even better is, you’ll bring these things home to cook delicious meals together and display the items as a fond reminder of your time at the market.

2. Take an Art Class

Get in touch with your artistic sides and sign up for an art class! It doesn’t even need to be a continuous one either; there are many one-off “paint and drink” classes where you can relax with a glass or two of wine while creating your own art pieces.

Sit close to one another and keep up with the flirting throughout the class. Head home with your finished works of art and continue the fantastic day with a delicious meal and some alone time!

3. Go to a Concert

It doesn’t matter if it’s a weekday; ditch work and sneak off to a concert with your significant other! Put on your best festival clothes and feel young and wild again while dancing in the crowd.

Sidle up to your partner and have a blast coordinating your footwork while singing along to your favorite bands. It’ll definitely be a bonding experience!

4. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride

If you’re looking for unique day date ideas, then you’ve got it right here. Not only can you get a fantastic view by going up in a hot air balloon ride, but it’s also incredibly romantic.

When you book with someone like www.aerogelicballooning.com, you can choose packages that include champagne, a sunset view, and even fireworks! This can be the perfect backdrop for a proposal if you were planning on taking the next step.

Try These Daytime Date Ideas for a Fun Time

With these fun daytime date ideas, you can bring life back into your relationship. From visiting the local market to taking a hot air balloon ride, these exciting and spontaneous date ideas can remind you why you love each other so much.

And what’s better is, many of these ideas are easily repeatable. So you don’t have to keep thinking of new things just to go out on a date!

7 Famous British Traditions That Will Surprise You

Published

British Traditions

Before the pandemic, over 40 million tourists visited Great Britain every year!

The British have given the world many things. Fish and chips, the Beatles, and David Beckham, to name a few. But if there’s one thing tourists really come for, it’s their British culture and traditions.

Many of these have developed over the last thousand years and have their roots in Britain’s religious and political history. But some of them are more recent and are just downright bizarre. Cheese rolling, anybody?

Let’s take a look at the ancient and modern British traditions that make the UK somewhere everyone should have on their bucket list!

1. Changing of the Guard, London

Changing of the Guard London is one of the time-honored UK traditions that attracts tourists in their millions.

It takes place at Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth’s official residence in London. You can tell if she’s at home if the Royal Standard flag is flying.

The guards in question are the soldiers stationed outside Buckingham Palace to keep the Queen safe. They wear distinctive red coats and bearskin hats with a very conspicuous chin strap. In the winter they trade their red overcoats for grey ones.

The schedule for the changing of the guard varies depending on when you’re visiting. Be sure to check beforehand so you’re there at the right time. It takes around 90 minutes, so you may just want to go for part of it.

2. Cheese Rolling, Gloucestershire

You’ve got to wonder who took a look at an incredibly steep hill and thought, let’s roll a wheel cheese down this!

Well, someone did, and around 600 years ago according to some sources, the first cheese rolled down Cooper’s Hill. Oh, and the place name also highlights another beloved British tradition – place names with weird spelling. In this case, Gloucestershire is pronounced ‘Glostershire’.

The format of the event is simple. A 7-9lb wheel of local Double Gloucester cheese is rolled down the hill. People chase the cheese and try to be the first person to the bottom.

The hill is very steep and unsurprisingly, there are injuries each year. It was paused during the COVID pandemic but is scheduled to make a comeback in 2022.

3. The Queen’s Speech

You’ve probably heard of the movie The King’s Speech. Well, did you know that every year the current Queen (the daughter of the king from the movie) gives a speech of her own to the British public?

It’s prerecorded and broadcast to the nation at 3 pm on December 25th each year. It has become an essential part of British culture.

Even now, many Brits tune in for this annual chance to hear a few well-chosen words from their much-admired monarch. Topics usually include how the country has fared over the last year and a few personal comments about her family.

4. Henley Royal Regatta

The British love a good boat race. There’s a famous one each year between Oxford and Cambridge Universities. But the cream of the crop is the Henley Royal Regatta, held on the first weekend in July.

There are five days of competition and the rowers compete to cover a one-mile stretch of the river Thames in the fastest time. The biggest trophy is the Grand Challenge Cup. This is a Men’s Eights event, meaning there are eight rowers and one cox to steer the boat.

You can either book tickets for one of the viewing enclosures or take your chance in a public viewing area along the riverbank.

5. Highland Games

Let’s head north of the England/Scotland border to explore some other United Kingdom traditions.

Not to be confused with the Olympic Games, the Highland Games take place every spring and summer. Several events are held throughout Scotland, but the most famous is the Cowal Games, held in Dunoon in August each year.

Around 3,500 competitors compete in some quintessentially Scottish sporting activities. These include the caber toss. This involves balancing a large wooden beam (caber) on your hands and shoulder and then tossing it as straight as you can.

Other throwing events include stone put (similar to shotput) and the Scottish hammer throw. There are lots of other traditional Scottish activities held at these events. It’s well worth a visit for anyone looking to connect with their Scottish roots or just enjoy a fun day out.

6. Complaining

One of the more surprising customs in the UK is complaining about everything.

This may come as a surprise to anyone who thinks Brits are like the cheery chimney sweep from Mary Poppins. But actually, there are few things British people love more than a good old whinging (complaining) session. They’ve even made TV shows out of it, like Grumpy Old Men, and Very British Problems.

Favorite topics for complaint include the weather, Brexit, football (meaning soccer), and traffic. Modern life may have brought lots of time-saving gadgets, but Brits love to complain about these too. Especially Wi-Fi, unsolicited phone calls, and home deliveries are hot topics they love to whine about.

But there’s a kind of logic behind this tradition that you really have to go to the UK to observe. One in four Brits believes that if they whine enough, eventually something will be done about the price of things. So while it’s probably not the tradition they’re most proud of, maybe there’s some thinking behind it after all.

7. Ravens at the Tower of London

The Tower of London is a must-see attraction for any visitor to the UK’s capital.

But it’s not just the architecture, the Crown Jewels, and the thousand years of history that are of interest. It’s the birdlife too. Specifically, nine ravens who call the Tower their home.

An old legend states that if the ravens ever leave the tower, the crown (monarchy) and the tower will fall. Although everyone’s sure this legend is just a load of old hogwash, to this day they still clip one wing of the ravens to make sure they don’t fly too far away.

British Traditions to Experience for Yourself

Whether you plan to spend a few days or a few weeks in the UK, make sure you immerse yourself in some of these great British traditions.

Have a good whinge while eating fish and chips. Head down to the Palace for the changing of the guard. And don’t forget to pay the ravens a visit at the Tower of London.

An Overview of the Different Types of Concerts

Published

Types of Concerts

Are you looking for a fun way to spend an evening in your hometown? Or are you travelling to a new city, wondering how you can make the most of your short time there?

You should attend a concert. Few things are better than experiencing live music. Watching musicians pour out their hearts and soul on stage in front of a sold-out crowd is nothing short of exhilarating.

But there are many different types of concerts you can attend. From a classical concert experience to a nitty-gritty punk rock show, there’s no shortage of options depending on your musical tastes.

Keep reading below to learn not just about the types of concerts to consider, but how to prepare for a concert as well.

House Show

We’ll start with the smallest type of event. House shows are still going strong around the country.

Brand new musicians, and artists from nearby towns, or even across the state, often fill living rooms, backyards, and basements. House shows might have just 10 attendees or can have as many as 100.

They are real, raw events where theatrics is limited and you get to witness pure passion and emotion. And they’re usually free, though sometimes you can expect to drop $5 or $10 at the door to support any travelling artists.

Open Mic Night

The next step up is an open mic night. These are also local events where anyone who wants to play can play.

Often held at coffee shops or restaurants that are trying to generate additional business, these shows are casual and free to attend. No concert tickets are needed.

The quality of musicians can vary greatly, from someone just learning their instrument to established bands just trying to get in front of a crowd.

Open mic nights are great to attend, especially if they’re happening at a business you want to patronize anyways. Just don’t have high expectations.

Local Concert

Local concerts are usually available in every medium to large town and city. Most cities have smaller music venues where a few hundred people can gather to watch small shows.

Often, music artists are local, though occasionally, you’ll get a touring artist who doesn’t have a huge reputation just yet.

These local concerts are where many big bands get their start. While you won’t see anyone famous yet, you might see the next Adele or Blink 182 before they make it to the big stage.

Medium-Sized Concert

Next up you have medium-sized concerts. With shows of this caliber, you can expect to be in a professional music venue.

These can typically accommodate a few thousand people. Sometimes they can hold tens of thousands of people.

They are typically built exclusively for concerts. You’ll get a range of shows happening here, from cheap concerts featuring smaller, local artists.

But you’ll also have plenty of shows with bigger-name musicians. These types of shows will often sell out, so it’s a good idea to buy concert tickets ahead of time. For example, you can buy Banda MS tour tickets here.

These venues usually don’t have seats. Everyone will stand on their feet for the duration of the show, rubbing shoulders with the rest of the crowd. It’s a fun experience, but it isn’t for everyone.

Big-Name Concert

If you’re looking to go to a concert with professional production, theatrics, lighting, and the biggest artists, you’ll be going to big-name concerts.

These are the events that typically happen at stadiums, sporting arenas, and other massive venues. You can expect tens of thousands at these events.

The venues aren’t built exclusively for concerts, but for larger events. But since they can accommodate so many people, they will host the event here.

This is where you’re going to see your celebrity artists. Want to see Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift on their next tour? You’ll be in an arena.

Want to see legendary artists like The Eagles or members of The Beatles? You’ll be in a big stadium.

With these events, most attendees will be assigned a seat. While most people stand during the musical performance, it’s nice to be able to sit down in between artists.

These tickets will sell out so you’ll want to buy as early as you can. They often aren’t cheap either.

These are proper events that you might drive or even fly to. Plan to spend at least one night in the city so you don’t have to drive all the way home after.

Music Festival

Aside from the dedicated concert, where you can see anywhere from three to seven artists in one evening, there are also music festivals. These have surged in popularity in recent years.

Some music festivals happen just once a year, in a single city. Examples include Lollapalooza in Chicago. This happens over the course of three days every summer.

Others happen on multiple weekends, like Coachella in Southern California. Two consecutive three-day weekends will sell out, giving as many people as possible the chance to experience the event.

You’ll also have music festivals that occur in a different city each year. And many festivals will go on tour.

Warped Tour, featuring punk and alternative bands, happened across the country, each on a single, full day with multiple stages.

The biggest musical festivals do sell out. Buying as early as possible, such as the day tickets are released, is usually necessary.

The biggest festivals have developed some of the most loyal followings, especially since they host the biggest musical artists in the world.

Types of Concerts

Concerts also differ greatly based on the music genre. Rock concerts have a very different environment from rap or hip-hop shows, but both are very exciting.

Country music concerts might encourage people to dance and sway, while punk rock shows might stir up a mosh pit or cause attendees to stage dive.

It’s all part of the fun, so make sure to go into a concert with the right expectations. In general, the closer you are to the front, the rowdier and sweatier you can expect things to be.

Enjoying Live Music

Many different types of concerts exist to meet any level of musical interest. You can visit local events to experience up-and-coming talent, or you can buy concert tickets to massive events that fill stadiums.

And they’re all fun and fulfilling and should be a regular part of your monthly schedule.

How to Keep Cut Flowers Fresh

Published

on

By

Flowers Fresh

Back in the day, flowers were like sending DMs; each had its own meaning you could convey to the receiver. Nowadays, we still practice this to some extent, but we favor text messages instead.

Still, fresh flowers still have their place in our homes. Not only do they mean something, but they also perk up any space.

But these are living things that will eventually wilt. How can you keep them fresh for as long as possible?

Read on to find out how to keep cut flowers fresh!

Start Fresh

To keep cut flowers fresh, you need to start fresh! Anything you do is only delaying decay, so if you start out with something that’s already half-dead, it’s not going to magically become perky.

You should buy fresh flowers from reputable vendors, such as https://richmarflorist.com/. Or if you’re cutting your own, do it in the early morning and use a sharp clean knife. Cut at an angle for better water uptake.

Keeping Flowers Fresh

Now that you’ve got the flowers in hand, what next?

Your first instinct might be to fill a vase with cold water, but stop! In reality, cut flowers like water that’s a bit warmer, up to 110 degrees.

So actually, you need to fill your vase with some hot water instead of cold. The exception is spring bulbs, like tulips and daffodils.

Give Them Some Sugar

Not only should you place your cut flowers in warm water, but you should also put a tablespoon of sugar in. This will give the flowers something to feed on so they stay nice and pretty.

Add a Splash of Bleach

Put any living thing in water, and bacteria can start to grow. Adding a splash of bleach can kill anything in there, without killing the flowers themselves!

Keep Your Flowers Away From Sun and Extreme Temps

Full sun will be too harsh for cut flowers and can cause them to wilt faster. Cold or hot drafts will also make them unhappy, so choose a place where the temperature’s just right.

Don’t Put Your Flowers Near Fruit Bowls

You might think that your flowers will complement your fruit bowl perfectly, but this is a bad idea. Ripening fruits release a hormone called ethylene, which can cause your flowers to quickly deteriorate!

Change the Water Regularly

Even if you’ve added a splash of bleach, bacteria can eventually grow. So make sure you change the water every few days to keep it nice and fresh.

Know How to Keep Cut Flowers Fresh for Longer

When you follow our tips to keep flowers fresh, you’ll enjoy their beauty and fragrance for much longer. Not to mention, you’ll get more out of what you’ve paid for! So keep this advice in mind the next time you receive a bouquet or want to snip some flowers in your garden.

If you enjoyed learning how to keep cut flowers fresh, then find other hacks by reading the rest of our blog page!
